Thanks for taking the time to post a comment, Maryanne. I am grateful to you for setting me on this course. It has forced me to think ever broader about how my choices impact others. I had no idea, prior to researching this article, how widespread the use of palm oil is, nor how disastrous its production can be. I had already given up vegan cheese due to a post on another site. I agree; there are lots of options that do not require a commercially prepared answer. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thank you for the research that is evident in your post. There is much “food for thought” here, and a lot of information that urges us to be ever more vigilant when purhasing vegan products. I, for one, have stopped using Earth Balance altogether and have found that using a blend of oils (extra-virgin olive and canola) and a touch of cider vinegar lends much more flavor to various dishes than Earth Balance ever did for me. (And I thought it was going to be difficult to do without that product!) This demonstrates, once again, that necessity is the mother of invention. I realize that Earth Balance is not the only culprit here, and I am even more careful than before when reading labels to ensure (as much as possible) that the item I am purchasing is earth-friendly, again, as much as possible.
